There are several famous people who have been diagnosed with varying degrees of scoliosis. The condition has definitely not hindered their abilities and it hasn’t stopped them from achieving success in their own ways.

Usain Bolt

Usain Bolt, the fastest man in the world, has scoliosis. When the Olympic champion first began his career, the condition hampered his abilities because he got injured every year. However, he learned to accommodate his skills so that his scoliosis would no longer be a problem. By keeping his core and back strong, his scoliosis does not affect him at all now.

Princess Eugenie

In 2019 on International Scoliosis Awareness Day, Princess Eugenie from the UK’s royal family used her platform to spread awareness about the condition. She posted a photo of her scoliosis scar on her Instagram account and stated that everyone should be proud of their scar as it is a sign of strength and endurance. When Princess Eugenie got married in 2018, her wedding dress was designed to display her scar.

Yo-Yo Ma

Famous cellist Yo-Yo Ma was treated for scoliosis by undergoing surgery at the age of 25. His job playing the cello had aggravated his condition and his spine reached a 63 degree curve before he was operated on. It was affecting his lungs and breathing ability but he had avoided surgery because he did not want to pause playing the cello for a long period of time. Since then, he has continued to succeed in the world of music and earned numerous awards.

Shailene Woodley

Hollywood actress Shailene Woodley has revealed that when she was 15, her spine was curved at 38 degrees. Despite having a severe curve, she has never let it get in the way of her acting roles, many of which involve high degrees of physicality. Even though it causes pain occasionally, Shailene has endured it and continued to make a name for herself in Hollywood.
